Autumn Break 2023

 Join us on Fulton!

Join us on a sailing trip with the schooner Fulton. We have obtained an exclusive permission to survey the strange and hidden life in a tidal inlet channel of the coast of Esbjerg. These channels are some of the least explored habitats in Denmark. The biologist guide onboard has brought equipment including a trawl net so we can catch whatever is out there and have a closer look at it. During the trip the guide will also explain about the special adaptations that these animals have to a life under water. The trip also offers sea-side views of Esbjerg and since the trip takes place during the autumn migration we will probably also get a memorable birdwatching experience. Book tickets here or buy ticket for the Wadden Sea Center here

In addition to the activities in the exhibition, we have also planned a number of public tours:

Tuesday, October 16

Sea explorer – Are you ready to explore the fauna of the seabed with the whole family? Then go on a journey and become a true Wadden Sea expert. This tour is especially a tour for families with small children.

Wednesday 18 October

The little Oyster Tour – Take part in our small oyster tour, where we drive to the Wadden Sea in our own cars. From here we walk a total of about 4 km to and from an oyster bank.

Black Sun in Ribe
Seal in the Wadden Sea

The new WADDEN SEA CENTRE

With the unique nature of architect Dorte Mandrups building - where reeds are used on facade, roof and underlay, and lists of robinia-wood make the already existing building melt seamlessly together with the new building - the result is a structure, that almost seems to grow from the ground - gently and adapted to the flat marshland.

The exhibition "THE MIGRATORY BIRDS' WADDEN SEA" is likewise adapted to the singular center. In cooperation with THE WADDEN SEA CENTRE, architect Johan Carlsson has with his thorough design created a poetic, aesthetic and modern exhibition, which with great perception shows the Wadden Sea and the migratory birds. Here are experiences which catches and involves the guests of the center - young as well as elderly - in the wondrous world of the Wadden Sea.
