We will meet up at THE WADDEN SEA CENTRE with our own bikes, and from here the nature guide will bring you on an app. 17 km long trip around The Wadden Sea National Park. We will bike along dikes and pass by newly created marsh areas and clay trenches, where we might see different waders and ducks. Shorter stops are planned into the trip, so we will have good time to experience the old borderland and hear of the the cultural history of the places we pass by.
We will hike aross the seabed along the old Ebbevej (Ebb road) to Mandø. On the hike we will meet the myriad of crabs, mussels and birds in the Wadden Sea, and hear about the dynamic landscape and the history of Mandø. Well arrived on Mandø we will find an appropriate place to rest and enjoy the lunch or coffee we each will have brought along in the hike. From Mandø the tractor buss will transport us back to the mainland.
We will walk app. 8 km on the tour, and the tour is suitable for children from 8 years and up.
Råhede Vade (Råhede Intertidal Mudflats) is a marsh area formed in the last 40-50 years. Here we are able to experience the formation of the land in action, while we hike 5,5 km around the mudflats. We will for example take a look on the salt tolerant plants of the area, plants which catch the sediment the tide brings in. The tides have also created "loer", which are trenches cutting through the natural marsh. The area has a rich bird life and functions as a high water resting place for many species of waders.
With the unique nature of architect Dorte Mandrups building - where reeds are used on facade, roof and underlay, and lists of robinia-wood make the already existing building melt seamlessly together with the new building - the result is a structure, that almost seems to grow from the ground - gently and adapted to the flat marshland.
The exhibition "THE MIGRATORY BIRDS' WADDEN SEA" is likewise adapted to the singular center. In cooperation with THE WADDEN SEA CENTRE, architect Johan Carlsson has with his thorough design created a poetic, aesthetic and modern exhibition, which with great perception shows the Wadden Sea and the migratory birds. Here are experiences which catches and involves the guests of the center - young as well as elderly - in the wondrous world of the Wadden Sea.
