Black sun can be a nature experience and natural phenomenon in a dimension of its own. The dance of the starlings is a dance of life and dead. The amazing formations the starlings make is decided by the number af raptors chasing the starlings.
The nature guides follow the starlings in the days up to the tour and will do their very best to find where the starlings rest for the night. But when it comes to nature, there are no garanties. Nobody knows exactly how the evening will go - and that is what makes it so interesting! Come join us on an interesting and educational trip, where you will be able to both see and hear more about the wonderful world of the starlings.
Season: March-April and September-October
As global citizens the migratory birds arrive to Wadden Sea National Park in the spring and the autumn. On their way between the breeding sites in the North and the wintering sites in the South, they fill up in the giant "restaurant" that the Wadden Sea is. There is a landing and take off every second, and when the high tide floods the restaurant the migratory birds gather in giant flocks - a scenery one can properly call the Greatest natural phenomenon of Denmark!
Experience the large flock when THE WADDEN SEA CENTRE invites you on a bird watching trip in the middle of the Wadden Sea National Park. We almost always spot a White-tailed eagle, and if we are lucky an Eurasian Spoonbill might also pass by. Other days we get to experience the phenomenon Black sun performed by waders, their equivalent to the Black sun of the starlings.
We will drive in our own cars and visit some of the best bird watching locations in the Wadden Sea. We will be bringing telescopes along so we can watch the birds "up close".
Season: April-June and August-October
The new WADDEN SEA CENTRE
With the unique nature of architect Dorte Mandrups building - where reeds are used on facade, roof and underlay, and lists of robinia-wood make the already existing building melt seamlessly together with the new building - the result is a structure, that almost seems to grow from the ground - gently and adapted to the flat marshland.
The exhibition "THE MIGRATORY BIRDS' WADDEN SEA" is likewise adapted to the singular center. In cooperation with THE WADDEN SEA CENTRE, architect Johan Carlsson has with his thorough design created a poetic, aesthetic and modern exhibition, which with great perception shows the Wadden Sea and the migratory birds. Here are experiences which catches and involves the guests of the center - young as well as elderly - in the wondrous world of the Wadden Sea.
