Bring the whole family to the Wadden Sea Center and experience a creative day filled with nature, crafts and fun! Together, children and parents build bird boxes for starlings.

You buy a building kit in our shop and build two birdhouses together with one of our nature guides, who has all the tools ready. Finally, you can burn your names into the birdhouse, so you can check at each visit to the Wadden Sea Centre whether a bird has already moved in.

We meet at the Wadden Sea Centre, where we have gear bags ready for you. The expedition leader will show you the way to the Wadden Sea National Park, where we will go hunting for the strange animals in the mud and water of the Wadden Sea.

We will take some of the catch back to the Wadden Sea Center, where we can examine the animals up close with a stereoscope. Find out if you can become a true SEA EXPLORER?

When you are finished exploring the Wadden Sea's exciting wildlife, you have the opportunity to dive into the Wadden Sea Center's exhibition "The Wadden Sea of Migratory Birds," which looks at the Wadden Sea from the perspective of migratory birds.

When it's time for a break, you can settle down in our Eco Gold Label-certified café, where we serve organic dishes, cakes, and drinks. Here you can also admire the beautiful paintings and watercolors by Jens Gregersen, which bring you closer to the birds and nature of the Wadden Sea. In the Wadden Sea Center shop, you will find a wide selection of gifts, souvenirs, and books about the Wadden Sea—an experience in itself, whether you are a curious adult or a student looking for a souvenir.

After relaxing indoors, enjoy amazing outdoor experiences in the great outdoors. Go on an oyster safari and taste the gold of the Wadden Sea straight from the seabed. Experience the “black sun” when thousands of starlings dance in the sky. Follow a nature guide on a mudflat hike, where the tides reveal their fascinating wildlife, or take the whole family on a maritime adventure aboard the Fulton. You can also experience the king of birds of prey on a sea eagle tour or combine nature and flavor on the “Oysters & Campfire” tour.

The experience begins as soon as you arrive. The Wadden Sea Center was designed by architect Dorte Mandrup—a striking building that is itself an architectural masterpiece and blends harmoniously into the landscape of the marshes and the Wadden Sea.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026 between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, one of our nature guides will dissect a bird, and you will get an exclusive insight into the anatomy of these amazing animals.
What does a bird need to fly? What does a bird's heart look like? And what is in a bird's stomach? Participation is free with a valid ticket to the exhibition. You can find the date in our event calendar.
