Our ‘Mudflat Hike – Classic’ is the classic choice amongst our mudflat tours and is suitable for anyone aged 14 and over who would like to gain a first glimpse into the wondrous world of the Wadden Sea. What does a lugworm actually look like? What is a mudflat fork and why is the sea behind the dyke? And what exactly is a mudflat? Our nature guide will answer these and many other questions during a two-hour walk. You’ll meet the nature guide at the ticket office of the Wadden Sea Centre and walk 700 metres down to the dyke. After a short walk along the dyke, you’ll cross a tidal creek, which carries varying amounts of water depending on the tide (on some days, the water level may be higher than your rubberbboots, which is why we recommend doing the tour barefoot in summer). Remember to keep your shoes on for the first part of the tour, as we’ll initially be walking along a road to the mudflats. After that, we’ll walk a short distance out across the seabed and discover the secrets of the mudflats together.
Every guest must be able to walk 4–5 km without any difficulty.
